Marcel Zamora is very familiar of the 21 Alpe d'Huez turns, and a cycling enthusiast, of course. We took advantage of his arrival in the TIME Xtrem team to ask him to tell us about his bike, and particularly the official bike of the event, the brand new TIME Alpe d'Huez. This is the same beauty that you can test ride for free during all the week long with the TIME Experience (+infos).

How do you choose between the Scylon and the Alpe d'Huez models, and which one will you use on the TIME Triathlon Alpe d'Huez?

For me, the choice is very simple. I choose the Scylon on long distance races, for the race profiles that are not very demanding in terms of technique and ascent. If it’s a tough race, like on the Embrunman for example, I prefer the Alpe d'Huez. The Scylon is a bicycle that allows you to ride very well on the flat and to climb with agility. But on the TIME Triathlon de Alpe d'Huez, I will logically use the Alpe d'Huez.

Do you think that the name "Alpe d'Huez" is adapted to this model designed for the mountain? Why?

I don't think there is a more mythical place than Alpe d'Huez when we refer to mountain cycling. This name gives the idea that this bike is perfect for the mountain pass enthusiasts, who will take a lot of pleasure riding it.

What are your feelings with the Alpe d'Huez bike?

I think it's a very comfortable bike, whether it's for climbing or for the flat parts. The position is pleasant to ride, and the bike is fast and reassuring downhill. Its rigidity provides safety on sinuous descents and during tough climbs, the bike does not deform, which makes it possible to get full power return.
